YOUTH AND ELDERS FARMING PROGRAM

Dear Community,

I am writing to you today to ask for your support in an effort to bring our community together by strengthening our knowledge of and connection to the Earth.

This year ICEC will bring together elders and youth to farm 1-½ aces of land to grow vegetables, fruit trees and berries. The Youth and Elders Farming Program works to strengthen the bond between our elders and youth through activities that benefit the participants and the community as a whole.

Through the process of working together to plant, nurture, and harvest crops, our youth and elders will be able to experience an exchange of knowledge and experience by working closely together. Generations and extended families are welcome to build and stabilize the connections lost in the shuffle of everyday life in this Program.

The Youth and Elders Farming Program includes educational seminars, practical workshops, and field trips to build knowledge of land conservation through sustainable farming, permaculture, and traditional Native American farming practices. The food grown on ICEC land will be used for helping families that are having problems feeding their family and the remainder will be sold for funds to expand the Youth and Elders Farming Program in future years, including the opportunity for canning. ICEC also hopes to work with the vocational programs in Lyman Memorial High School and interested seniors in the Lebanon Senior Center.

ICEC is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization founded by Linda and John Reed, with members of the board of directors representing indigenous peoples in North and South America. It is located in Lebanon, CT on 13 acres of rich quality farmland. One of the primary goals of ICEC is to educate our community in the ways of organic and sustainable food production.

To further this program ICEC is seeking tax deductable donations of farming tools and equipment and financial contributions. In addition, volunteers are greatly appreciated. Our community possesses a great deal of knowledge to share with each other. Help us expand this collaborative program.
