Footsteps in Africa
The Indigenous Cultural Education Center, a 501c3 non-profit organization, and Kiahkeya Productions have established a charity fund to collect monetary aid for the Tuareg villagers in Mali who are featured in the film Footsteps in Africa, a Nomadic Journey (2008). Please visit www.footstepsafrica.com. Kiahkeya Productions created alliances with the local governors in the nomadic villages in 2006 when the film was shot. The fund will be collected through private/corporate donations and a percentage of the revenue from the film’s soundtrack. The soundtrack as well as an upcoming dance-remix album — slated to release early 2010 and feature 16 international DJs — will contribute fifteen percent of its profit to the fund. The fund will support the purchase and installment of solar pumps and new wells, well lids, and well sanitation/maintenance. Water conservation education courses will also be developed. Both climate change and political strife in the Sahara Desert have jeopardized these nomadic communities’ access to clean water. The call to action is now. Kiahkeya Director Kathi von Koerber and the ICEC are dedicated to bringing awareness and practical solutions to these indigenous’ livelihoods, land, and traditions. They understand that water is the source of life, and the future of all generations. Von Koerber and Almouzzamil Ag Mohamed, the son of the late chief Mahmud Ag Mohamed featured in the film, will personally deliver and monitor the fair distribution of the funds. All projects will be documented in order to spawn clean water education initiatives within African educational institutions and the international community. All donations are tax deductible, as ICEC is a non-profit organization. Ways to support: If you would like to support the Nomadic Villagers "Footsteps in Africa" clean water fund, you can:
